HIGH SCHOOL SUBSIDY LETTERS:
PLAIN TALK
Each year, the parish is assessed an amount of money by the Archdiocese to help subsidize the cost of education at a Catholic High School. Last year, we paid approximately $20,000. Members of the parish can request a letter from me attesting to their faithful involvement in the parish and are then given a better tuition rate from the school. Basically, it’s a transfer of wealth from the $20,000 to the family. One of the things we look at is the giving record of the family. There’s no pre-set expectation of a certain amount contributed to the parish. Everyone’s financial capacity is different. However, there is an expectation that something be given each year.
If we look at the records and nothing has been given, it makes it difficult to sign the form. Now, sometimes we learn that it was simply an honest mistake. Direct giving sometimes has its glitches; cards expire, for instance. But, most often, it’s a weird sense of entitlement, an attitude that is, frankly, off putting.
I give to the parish. I don’t believe that I can ask you to give if I won’t give. My work for the parish, my presence in the parish, is all well and good— my duty—but, I also need to give the parish from my financial resources. Thus, what I ask of families seeking a subsidy is the same obligation I impose upon myself.

Our Mass for our eighth grade class will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16. At the weekend Masses on May 17 and 18 we will recognize all high school and college graduates in the parish. We proud of your work and want to give you a blessing to mark this accomplishment.

Thank You to Our Welcome Committee!
We extend heartfelt thanks to parishioners Nicole and Matt Hughes and their dedicated Welcome Committee for their ongoing commitment to hospitality at St. Eugene. Twice each year, this team generously hosts welcome events to help new parishioners feel at home in our community.
Nicole and Matt have faithfully led this effort for the last few years, and their most recent gathering was a wonderful success—more than 60 parishioners filled the rectory, connecting with one another and with members of the Welcome Committee.

Grief Support Interest Survey
We are gauging interest in establishing a grief support group at St. Eugene for anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one. This will be a safe, compassionate space to share, reflect and find healing together through guided discussions and supportive community.

Volunteer With the Franciscans This Saturday

Ross Hall Kitchen
Volunteers needed this Saturday to assist the Franciscans! Help prepare lunch in the Ross Hall Kitchen at 11 a.m., then join in serving meals at their feeding locations across from the Jesus House and at the Homeless Alliance around noon. Your time and support make a difference!
Donations of gloves, blankets, socks, women and men’s underwear, adult t-shirts, street shoes and non-perishable foods/drinks are greatly appreciated. These donations can be deposited in the large wooden chest outside of Ross Hall before 11 a.m. on Saturday. Our heartfelt thanks and prayers are given for those who have donated. Registration Deadline for Steubenville Is May 15
Deadline to register is Thursday, May 15.
Steubenville is a three-day long conference offered for high school students during the summer. Teens will have the opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ in Adoration, Mass, and Confession. Praise and Worship is a highlight of the Steubenville experience! Teens will also hear talks from leading Catholic Speakers. Fellowship with fellow Catholic teens from all over the country gives teens the chance to see that the church truly is Universal and we are not alone!
