Greetings!
My name is Rendon Chambers and I am very happy to be assigned to St. Eugene this summer. I am originally from St. Francis of Assisi parish and went to Catholic schools my entire life, graduating Rosary Catholic School in 2014 and Bishop McGuinness in 2018. During my time in high school, I was initially thinking of becoming a professional pianist, but after feeling called to the priesthood around the summer after my sophomore year, I decided to enter the seminary right after my senior year.
To make a long story short, I felt the call when serving the poor in Piura, Peru. I was building houses, delivering food, and teaching music to people who had very little. What I learned there was that despite having so little, the people were rich in faith, desiring Christ above all their material needs. This was especially clear when I went to bring communion to the homebound. Although we would offer the homebound new mattresses, food, or anything they could use, they would all tell us, “I have Jesus now, I have everything I need.” It was in these moments that the greatest gift I can give to others was Christ Himself.
This experience has accompanied me through my seven years of seminary that I have completed so far, and in two years, I hope to continue to bring Christ in His sacraments to others as His priest.
